Rest, Relax, and Reset

On May 25th a workshop for caregivers was presented by “Caring for the Carer” support group of Charlotte, N.C. and hosted at MossflowerAbbey Farm. The workshop focused on “Caregiving Recovery: Remembering YOU”, rediscovering, renewing, and rebuilding your own life with excitement, adventure, purpose, and hope while caregiving. Dr. Patricia (Kay) Reyna lead the sessions during the workshop. The sessions were quite interactive. Expressing true feelings and challenges that caregivers have during their journey of caregiving can be very difficult. But Kay and the group made everyone so comfortable that there was great interaction among them. The participants shared their experiences and challenges along with the great discussions on the topics/questions that were brought up during the morning and afternoon sessions. We thank Kay for bringing such important and pertinent information to the workshop. Words cannot wholly convey how beneficial this workshop was to caregivers, but watching the group reflect on what they have gone through and are going through was remarkable to see.

Also on the agenda was a dinner the evening before the workshop for all those that were local or staying over night. This was another good time of getting to know each other and sharing where each person was on their journey of caregiving.  They enjoyed conversation, dinner and a trip to the fire pit to make s’mores.  It was an evening of relaxing and enjoying time away from their normal routine.  The weather was great that evening and even a little cool which made the fire pit even more enhancing.

We would like to thank the “Caring for the Carer” support group of Charlotte, N.C for organizing the workshop and Dr. Patricia (Kay) Reyna for leading the morning and afternoon sessions. And a special thank you goes to the participants of the workshop. Without your willingness to share your experiences that help others through their caregiver journey, the workshop would not be as effective and helpful to everyone else. The workshop is over but each of you will be remembered here at the Farm.

We are planning on another workshop in the fall and hope to have an event or open house at the Farm to promote community awareness about Traumatic Brain Injury.  As plans and dates are firmed up, we will post them on the MosslfowerAbbey Farm website.
